Angry Birds Star Wars gets a new update – Hoth episode now playable!

Angry Birds Star Wars may well be the most shameless cash-in in the entire history of shameless cash-ins, but I don’t care, because it’s fun as hell, and I love it. I love launching my little Han Solo-bird, and firing away with his blaster, to try and bounce the lasers of three walls, and nail that little green bleeder that’s hiding behind a wall. When that fails, I love launching my Obi-Wan Kenobird, to Force push the wall away. And when that fails, I just launch Chewbacca-bird, to nut the wall into oblivion.

Well, now, I love it a little bit more, because there’s a new update out, and I finally got round to playing it on my HTC One X. We’re now onto The Empire Strikes Back, and that means that, glory be, we can now fling birds at AT-ATs on Hoth! Win!

So, basically, the avian Rebels at your secret base on Hoth are under attack, and it’s up to you to haul tail out of there, by way of smashing every new pig structure you see into tiny little bits. Oh, and there’s some space-based levels, too, where you have to run the Empire’s blockade of the planet, culminating in a face off with three star destroyers (one of which is quite clearly Vader’s super-star destroyer, the Executor). As well as new levels, you also get a new character, ‘cos they’ve added Princess Leia-bird to the roster, and her ability is damnably good fun, ‘cos it’s a bright pink tractor beam.

Seriously, pulling AT-ATs legs out from under them is never getting old, although I say my usual proviso, here: this game is definitely easier to play on big screens, so you’ll have an easier time playing on a Samsung Galaxy Note II than you would on, say, a Sony Xperia U

So, what’s next in the world of Angry Birds Star Wars? Well, there’s still a load of levels locked in the Hoth chapter, so I’d bet that the next update will bring us that chase through the asteroid field, and the one after that will be Cloud City (what with Dagobah forming the extra pay-to-unlock content in the game). After that, we’re into Return Of The Jedi, which I’d guess means Jabba’s Palace and the Sarlacc Pit on Tatooine, followed by the Battle of Endor.

And then, gawd help us, we might have to face up to them doing the prequels…
